A Free Church App for Brazil: Portuguese, Free Bibles and ORA

What SoapBox can do for a church in Brazil today: the app in Portuguese, free Portuguese Bibles, ORA as a study aid, and a free start for up to a hundred members.

Alan Safahi

If you lead a church in Brazil, you probably want an app that your members can use in their own language, that does not cost your church a budget meeting to try, and that does not leave out the people in your congregation who only have a basic phone. This article walks through what SoapBox can do for a church in Brazil today, and where the edges are, so you can decide with accurate information. One important edge comes first: giving through the app is not available in Brazil yet, and this article does not promise it.

Key takeaways

  • The app runs in Portuguese, and each member chooses their own language.
  • The Bible reader has Portuguese Bibles such as the Nova Versão Internacional and the Nova Versão Transformadora, all free.
  • ORA, SoapBox's study assistant, answers Bible questions in Portuguese as a research aid for study. It is not a pastor.
  • Your church starts free, for up to a hundred members, and paid plans are discounted for churches in Brazil.
  • Members with a basic phone can be kept in your People list, with no app and no account.
  • Giving through the app is not available in Brazil yet.

Prefer to watch first? Here is the English video and the Portuguese video. Both are short, and both show a fictional demo church, not a real one.

The app in Portuguese

The app runs in Portuguese, and each member chooses their own language. That matters in a congregation where one member is happiest reading in Portuguese and another, perhaps a student or a visitor, prefers English. SoapBox offers English and Portuguese, and the choice belongs to each person, not to the church.

Posts and reading-plan days are translated into each member's language automatically, and one tap shows the original. So a post that a leader writes in one language can still be read by everyone, and anyone who wants to check the leader's own words can see them with a single tap.

Portuguese Bibles, free

The Bible reader has Portuguese Bibles such as the Nova Versão Internacional and the Nova Versão Transformadora, all free, alongside other Portuguese translations. A member can open a passage in the reader without buying anything and without leaving the app.

There is one gap to know about. The Almeida translations (ARA and ARC) are not in the Bible reader yet. If your church reads from Almeida in the pulpit, your members will find the NVI and the NVT in the app, but not the Almeida text.

ORA, SoapBox's study assistant, answers Bible questions in Portuguese. ORA is a research aid for study, not a pastor. It can help a member look into a passage, and it does not replace you, your sermons or your counsel.

Free to start, and easy to share

Your church starts free, for up to a hundred members. Share your invite code on WhatsApp, Facebook, by text message or email, straight from the app, and members join your church community with the code.

If your church outgrows the free plan, paid plans are discounted for churches in Brazil. You can see the options on the plans page when you get there; there is no need to decide now.

A simple way to begin is to register your church on the web app or in the app, share your invite code with the members who already have smartphones, and add the rest of your congregation to People. You can see how it feels with a small group before you ask the whole church to change anything.

For members without a smartphone

Many congregations include people with a basic phone: older members, and anyone without a smartphone or data. No smartphone? No apps? No internet? No problem. SoapBox has a place for them too. Add them to your People list with a name and a mobile number. They need no app and no account.

To reach them by SMS, export your People list with phone numbers from Android, iPhone or the web app, and send through your church's own SMS provider. SoapBox does not send the SMS itself.

Light on data, and built for church life

Data costs money, and a church app should respect that. Turn on Data-Light Mode, and on mobile data, photos in posts wait until you tap them. Chapters you have already read stay on your phone.

For the church itself, you can upload a sermon and SoapBox transcribes it. Visitors who check in at the door land in Visitor Follow-up, so a first-time guest is not forgotten. The app is on the App Store and Google Play, and you can open app.soapboxsuperapp.com in any browser to register your church.

What is not here yet

Giving through the app is not available in Brazil yet, and so this article says nothing about donations, Pix or boleto. If a way to give is added for churches in Brazil, it will be announced on the country page, not promised in advance. The Almeida Bibles are also not in the reader yet. Knowing these limits now is better than finding them after your church has registered.

See it for yourself

The videos show the real screens with invented names, so you can follow each step, from the Portuguese Bible reader to the People list, before anyone in your church installs anything.

Everything above is on one page for Brazil: SoapBox in Brazil. More short how-to videos for pastors and members are collected at soapboxsuperapp.com/tutorials. If something here does not match what you see in the app, tell us. We would rather correct this page than have you rely on a promise we cannot keep.

Explore faith at your own pace.

SoapBox is a free Bible app with a live prayer wall, daily devotionals, and ORA, an AI study assistant that answers questions about faith with grounded, Scripture-cited responses, judgment-free, in your language.
