A Free Church App for Mexico: Spanish, Spanish Bibles and ORA

What SoapBox can do for a church in Mexico today: the app in Spanish, free Spanish Bibles, ORA as a study aid, and a place for members with a basic phone.

Alan Safahi

If you lead a church in Mexico, you probably want to know three things before you try any church app. Does it work in Spanish? Will it help the members who have only a basic phone? And will it cost your church money before you know whether it helps? This article walks through what SoapBox can do for a church in Mexico today, and where the edges are, so you can decide with accurate information.

Key takeaways

  • The app runs in Spanish, and each member chooses their own language.
  • The Bible reader has Spanish Bibles such as the NVI, the NTV and the Reina Valera 1909, all free.
  • ORA answers Bible questions in Spanish, as a research aid for study. It is not a pastor.
  • Your church starts free, for up to a hundred members.
  • Members with a basic phone can be kept in your People list, with no app and no account.

Prefer to watch first? Here is the English video and the Spanish video. Both are short, and both show a fictional demo church, not a real one.

The app in Spanish, with a choice for every member

The app runs in Spanish, and each member chooses their own language. That choice belongs to the person, not to the church. A member who is more comfortable in English can use English, and the member sitting next to them can use Spanish, in the same church community.

Posts and reading-plan days are translated into each member's language automatically, and one tap shows the original. If you post an announcement or a reading-plan day, members see it in their own language without anyone on your team retyping it.

One honest note: the Spanish you see in the app and in our Spanish video was translated by machine, and a native speaker has not yet reviewed it. If a phrase reads oddly, tell us. We would rather fix it than leave it.

Spanish Bibles, free in the reader

The Bible reader has Spanish Bibles such as the Nueva Versión Internacional, the Nueva Traducción Viviente and the Reina Valera 1909, all free. The La Biblia de las Américas is there too, along with more Spanish translations.

Two limits are worth knowing before you promise anything to your congregation. The Reina Valera 1960 is not in the Bible reader yet. And there is no Scripture in Nahuatl or Maya yet, in the app or in the Bible reader. If either matters to your church, plan around it for now.

ORA, SoapBox's study assistant, answers Bible questions in Spanish. ORA is a research aid for study, not a pastor: it helps a member look into a passage, and it does not replace you, your sermons or your counsel.

Free to start, and easy to share

Your church starts free, for up to a hundred members. You do not need a budget meeting to try it. Share your invite code on WhatsApp, Facebook, by text message or email, straight from the app, and members join your church community with the code.

If your church outgrows the free plan, paid plans are discounted for churches in Mexico. You can see the options on the plans page when you get there; there is no need to decide now.

A simple way to begin is to register your church on the web app or in the app, share your invite code with the members who already have smartphones, and add the rest of your congregation to People. You can see how it feels with a small group before you ask the whole church to change how it hears from you.

Nothing here asks your church to switch everything at once. Try the Bible reader and the Spanish app with your leaders first, then invite the congregation when you are comfortable. If the free plan covers your church, you may never need to look at the paid ones.

For members without a smartphone

Many congregations include people with a basic phone: older members, and anyone without a smartphone or data. SoapBox has a place for them too. Add them to your People list with a name and a mobile number. They need no app and no account.

To reach them by SMS, export your People list with phone numbers from Android, iPhone or the web app, and send through your church's own SMS provider. SoapBox does not send the SMS itself. The export works from Android, iPhone and the web app.

Sermons, visitors and data

Upload a sermon, and SoapBox transcribes it. Visitors who check in at the door land in Visitor Follow-up, so a first-time guest is not forgotten by Tuesday.

Data costs money, and a church app should respect that. Turn on Data-Light Mode, and on mobile data, photos in posts wait until you tap them. Chapters you have already read stay on your phone. The app is on the App Store and Google Play, and you can open app.soapboxsuperapp.com in any browser to register your church.

What we are not promising

This article does not describe giving in Mexico, because we are not ready to promise it. The videos do not show it either. We would rather tell you what works today than describe something your church would then discover is not ready.

See it for yourself

The videos show the real screens with invented names, so you can follow each step before anyone in your church installs anything. Everything above is on one page for Mexico: SoapBox in Mexico. More short how-to videos for pastors and members are collected at soapboxsuperapp.com/tutorials. If something here does not match what you see in the app, tell us.
